 Making an LED bulb involves assembling several electronic components inside a bulb housing. Below is a simple step-by-step explanation of how LED bulbs are made.


💡 Main Parts of an LED Bulb

An LED bulb typically contains:

  1. LED chips / LEDs – produce light

  2. PCB (Printed Circuit Board) – holds the LEDs

  3. Driver circuit – converts AC power to low DC voltage

  4. Heat sink – removes heat

  5. Diffuser / plastic dome – spreads the light

  6. Bulb holder / base (B22 or E27) – connects to socket


🔧 Steps to Make an LED Bulb

1️⃣ Prepare the LED PCB

  • LED chips are mounted on a PCB board.

  • Usually 6–12 LEDs are placed depending on bulb wattage (5W, 9W, etc.).

The LEDs are connected in series on the PCB.


2️⃣ Solder the LEDs

Using a soldering iron:

  • Attach LED chips to PCB

  • Connect the positive and negative terminals

This ensures proper electrical flow.


3️⃣ Prepare the Driver Circuit

The driver circuit converts 220V AC electricity into low DC voltage suitable for LEDs.

Components used:

  • Rectifier

  • Capacitors

  • Resistors

  • IC controller

This small circuit board is called the LED driver.


4️⃣ Connect Driver to PCB

Two wires connect:

  • Driver output → LED PCB input

This allows the LEDs to receive stable power.


5️⃣ Attach Heat Sink

LEDs generate heat.

The PCB is fixed on an aluminium heat sink to prevent overheating and increase bulb life.


6️⃣ Assemble Bulb Body

Now assemble the parts:

  1. Fix PCB + heat sink inside bulb housing

  2. Place the driver circuit in the base

  3. Connect wires to bulb holder


7️⃣ Attach Diffuser Cover

A plastic dome/diffuser is placed on top.

Purpose:

  • Spread light evenly

  • Protect LED chips


8️⃣ Testing

The final bulb is tested for:

  • Brightness

  • Voltage stability

  • Heat generation

If everything works properly, the bulb is ready.
